Invitation for Expressions of Interest in Pursuing Funding for an Initiative to Prevent Violence against Migrants and Refugees / Tuesday, June 12, 2018

We have received a grant from the American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution Foundation, Inc. of $25,000 for a project that aims to increase the capacity of a Non-Governmental Organization in Athens, Greece to promote dialogue, reduce violence, and alleviate suffering from racial, ethnic, and religious conflict associated with the substantial influx of refugees and migrants in recent years.

The nature of the project is in conducting an assessment of the anti-refugee/immigrant violence in Athens, vetting of Athens-based Non-Governmental Organizations to identify one that is capable and willing to engage in violence interruption, conceptualizing a sustainable project with that NGO, and writing a proposal for more extensive funding from other sources for project implementation.

The goal is to build a sustainable model for facilitating synergistic collaboration among three entities—namely, Rotary International, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and university-based experts in mediation with a goal of fostering dialogue and reducing violence where there is acute tension.

We would appreciate expressions of interest in participating in this project.
We are working closely with Cure Violence, an international NGO specializing in violence interruption.
Cure Violence’s Director of Projects, Brett Decker, and I plan to be in Athens from June 10-16.

During that time, we would like to meet with interested NGO staff members, collectively develop a vision for what is possible, engage in training on violence interruption, identify sources of major grants, and begin working on a grant proposal.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please plan to attend a meeting:
